Biography

Wegayehu Fitawek is a part-time lecturer and postdoctoral research fellow in the Department of Agricultural Economics, Extension, and Rural Development at the University of Pretoria, South Africa. She is an Agricultural Economist by profession. She obtained her first degree in Agricultural Economics from Haramaya University, Ethiopia. She got two master’s degrees in the field of Agricultural Economics, one from the University of Pretoria in South Africa and the other from Haramaya University in Ethiopia, and PhD from the University of Pretoria. The topic of her PhD research was “The impact of large-scale agricultural investment on household food security in Africa” and published three papers from her PhD. She has more than ten (10) years of working experience in different organizations (African Union Development Agency – NEPAD, African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), Research Institutes, and Universities). She is one of the fellows of the LANDac Professional Learning Network project in the Netherlands Her research interest focused on food security, food systems, food, and agricultural policy, and impact analysis.
