Biography
Nkanyiso Gumede is a researcher at the Institute for Poverty, Land and Agrarian Studies (PLAAS) at the University of the Western Cape. He holds a Masters Degree in Agriculture (Food Security). His research interests are on land and agrarian reform, large-scale land-based investments, and agrarian labour. He has done work on the nature and character of land redistribution in South Africa, equitable access to land for social justice, urban land reform, food systems, and land and agrarian reform issues in general.
His current research work is on land justice in South Africa. He is also an MPhil student on land and agrarian studies, investigating the outcomes of land reform for employment, livelihoods and land tenure rights for farm labour on land redistributed through the Pro-Active Land Acquisition Strategy in selected provinces in South Africa.
