Biography
Nkanyiso Gumede joined PLAAS in March 2016. He holds a Masters degree in Agriculture (Food Security); a Post Graduate Diploma in Information Studies; and a Bachelor of Science degree with majors in Microbiology and Plant Pathology, all obtained at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa.
Before joining PLAAS, he worked as an educator for Agricultural Sciences at Bizimali Secondary School in KwaZulu-Natal. He also had an opportunity to work as the Agricultural Facilitator for LIMA Rural Development Foundation under the Abalimi Phambili Project on a contract. He worked with smallholder farmers assisting them with inputs linkages, technical support and market linkages amongst other.
His work in South Africa includes work on the impact of agricultural investments on the land rights and livelihoods of the smallholder farmers in the communal areas, nature and character of land redistribution, food systems and land and agrarian reform issues in general. His current research work is on inclusive urban land reform in South Africa. He is also a registered MPhil student on Land and Agrarian studies.
