Biography
Sithembile Nsibande currently works for eThekwini Municipality, under Natural Resource Division as a Reserve Manager responsible for execution and sustainable management of a protected area and Durban Metropolitan Open Spaces (DMOSS). Additionally, her day-to-day operations and operational planning includes, Management of human resources functions and staff management, with evaluating and maintaining the protection of environmental sensitive areas through site inspections and field work, with emphasis on monitoring and ensuring rehabilitation measures take place in the protected area. She also works very closely with the ecologist on several research projects such as e.g., Bracken fern (Pteridium aquilinum) control, collecting data and monitoring of alien invasive bird species House Crow (Corvus splendens) within the eThekwini region. She works with various stakeholders at National, Regional and Local Level coordinating and convening meetings, advising the public on conservation issues, environmental laws and legislation in the protection of natural resources within eThekwini.
She holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Nature Conservation from Mangosuthu University of Technology. She has worked within the biodiversity and conservation field for over 5 years responsible for leading all operations and provision of management oversight role at a capacity of a Reserve Manager. Moreover, she had an exposure to acquire more set of skills for over 2 years as an Environmental Education Officer Assistant at eThekwini Municipality and a year as an Assistant Project Manager for Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife under Alien Invasive Project.
