Romie Vonkie Nghitevelekwa is lecturer in the Department of Social Sciences at the University of Namibia where she teaches sociology of development, sociology of the environment and rural sociology. Her research interests lie on communal land reform, land rights, security of tenure, changing land uses in the communal areas, commodification of land and generally land governance. She completed her PhD from the University of Freiburg in Germany, where her research focused on communal land reform and its implications for people’s lived realities and social equity. She is an active researcher, who is also actively engaged with communities and an author of the book Securing Land Rights: Communal Land Reform in Namibia.
