Michael Omara is the Justice and Natural Resources Coordinator at Avocats Sans Frontieres. He is a Legal Practitioner and Human Rights Defender working and with a fixed place of abode in Kampala-Uganda. Michael’s career is about legal practice and legal empowerment, project management with major focus on human rights, legal aid and pro-bono work in the areas of civil, land and natural resources (oil, gas, mining), commercial, criminal, and juvenile justice; business/programme development and data/information management. I am qualified in the application of human rights based approaches with skills in planning for, developing and implementing workable strategies to meet the required tasks/objectives including managing a diverse stakeholder approach/partners.
I have educational training, work experience and special interest in managing teams and resources in diverse project environments as well as considerable proficiency in access to justice programmes, Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) in natural resources issues and conflict analysis. Interests: Land & Natural Resources Access to Information, Community/Customary Land Rights, Environmental Justice, Governance, Labor & Employment, Traditional / Customary Justice. I have developed my career in areas of Human Rights and Legal Empowerment.
