Biography
Phelela joined PLAAS in June 2024 as an Administrative Assistant. In this role, she collaborates closely with the support staff to provide general administrative support. Her responsibilities include, but are not limited to, managing office operations, procurement, logistical coordination, planning national and international workshops, webinars, conferences, film screenings, and travel and accommodation for PLAAS staff.
Phelela is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Anthropology at the University of the Western Cape (UWC). As part of the 2023 Presidential Youth Stimulus internship, she was tasked with managing and facilitating book research for the Executive Director’s office in the UWC Human Resources Department. This position involved handling the project’s administrative and research components.
Following her internship, she was promoted to Administrative Assistant for the HR department before joining PLAAS. In this role, she organised and hosted a disability awareness event, which required sourcing and securing venues, caterers, audio-visual services, and entertainment options, as well as managing media engagement. Additionally, she contributed to developing promotional posters and collaborated with various departments. One of her key responsibilities included conducting interviews with Heads of Departments (HODs) and managers, as well as leading and recording virtual tours focused on universal access, which were later published on the UWC Communication platform.
