Biography
Deshnee Subramany has worked as a news journalist for 15 years, specialising in digital media. She began her career as a digital media specialist at Primedia Broadcasting’s Eyewitness News before she moved to the Mail & Guardian, working at first as a sub-editor and later as day editor for its digital platform, mg.co.za. Deshnee was the digital lead at investigative journalism organisation amaBhungane. She joined numerous newsrooms in TV and digital, such as eNCA as a producer, HuffPost SA at Media24 as news editor, and was a producer and manager at The Big Debate season 9. She most recently returned to Eyewitness News as digital editor of the brand, where she was responsible for maintaining the website’s strong presence among national competitors. Deshnee is now a freelance editor, writer as well as media trainer, and in March 2024 joined the Institute for Poverty, Land and Agrarian Studies at the University of Western Cape as Communications Manager.
