Redistributive land reform and poverty reduction in Zimbabwe

by Nelson Marongwe in 2009

Research on the performance of Zimbabwe’s land reforms, and in particular the extent to which the programme has contributed to poverty reduction, is quite limited. The work of Bill Kinsey and his associates provides the dominant body of literature on this aspect of Zimbabwe’s resettlement programme. This paper, in assessing the ‘state of the art’ on land reform and poverty reduction in Zimbabwe, draws heavily on Kinsey’s work. This is complemented by a review of the literature produced by undergraduate and postgraduate researchers on resettlement areas, especially in Masvingo province.
