SEMINAR: The Peasant Truth Commission and transitional justice in Brazil

Venue: PLAAS Boardroom
Date: 7 Aug 2018
Time: 13:00 to 14:00

Presenter: Prof  Regina Coelly Fernandes Saraiva

Transitional justice is one of the challenges of political transitions in Brazil. The proposition of the Peasant Truth Commission incorporated the peasant presence into the political process of the National Truth Commission. How was the process of incorporation of the peasants in the discussion of memory and truth? What are the contributions that the Brazilian processes could provide us to think about transitional justice in Brazil and South Africa? Answering these questions from the Brazilian experiences is the objective of this proposed seminar at PLAAS that intends to discuss the experience of the truth, reconciliation and memory in South Africa.
